NFL: Calvin Johnson breaks Jerry Rice's Single-Season Receiving Yards Record

Jerry Rice no longer holds the NFL record for most receiving yards in a single season after Calvin Johnson surpassed his 1,848 yards versus the Atlanta Falcons Saturday night.

Johnson finished the night with 11 catches for 225 yards, but he didn't find the end zone.
It's no secret that Johnson is a freak of nature and that he possesses superior talent, but this enters him into the realm of immortality. Rice's record lasted from 1995 until Saturday night, showing how impressive the Detroit Lions star's accomplishment is.
According to NBC Sports reporter Michael David Smith, Johnson also set the record for most consecutive 100-yard games on Saturday and tied Michael Irvin for most 100-yard games in a season.
Entering the game, Johnson had 106 catches for 1,667 yards and five touchdowns. Even though the Lions have enjoyed an extremely disappointing season, it doesn't take away from how astounding he is to watch week in and week out.
Johnson has entered new territory. Now, instead of preparing to break Rice's record, people must wrap their heads around the idea that he could clear the 2,000-yard mark.
How's that for a Madden curse?
While Rice got by on his work ethic, precise route-running and cerebral approach to the position, Johnson uses his stunning combination of size and speed to physically dominate defenders. He's been doing it since he entered the league in 2007, and it doesn't look like he's going to slow down any time soon.
At 6'5'', 236 pounds, the 27-year-old Johnson will almost certainly be an NFL mainstay for many years to come.
His record-breaking season ensured that he will be remembered forever, regardless of what happens from here on out. @ bleacherreport.com
