Coming into Week 16, Andrew Luck was probably more interested in clinching a playoff berth for his Indianapolis Colts than smashing individual records, but either way, he will be leaving Arrowhead Stadium as a record-holder on Sunday.
Luck broke the rookie single-season passing record against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.
Luck surpassed 4,100 yards on the year before halftime, topping Cam Newton's previous record of 4,051 yards, which lasted less than one season.
Luck is averaging more than 267 passing yards per week in his rookie season, and he was the league's eighth-leading passer in terms of yardage coming into Week 16.
Clearly the Colts made the right decision to bring the Peyton Manning era in Indy to a close and start anew with Luck. After being selected No. 1 overall in the 2012 NFL draft, the former Stanford signal-caller has exceeded the hype and has the Colts on the verge of getting back to the postseason just one year after finishing 2-14.
A win over the Chiefs this weekend would be Indy's 10th this season and would clinch an AFC Wild Card berth for the Colts.
Through Week 15, Luck was completing 54.6 percent of his passes and had 25 total touchdowns (five rushing) to 18 interceptions. He, along with Robert Griffin III, is a strong candidate to win the Offensive Rookie of the Year award in 2012. @ bleacherreport.com
